Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani at the Summer School of Labex ReFi

Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani attended the Summer School organized by Labex ReFi and New York Stony Brook University on 8 and 9 September 2016, whose main theme was the comparison between American and European financial regulations. She spoke about "Global Banking and Local Regulations"

In her speech, the CEO of the FBF said that the banking sector is a global industry dominated by US and especially Chinese banks that have strengthened their positions since the financial crisis. However, she pointed out that the ranking of the 35 largest banks includes five French banks, and among the top 10 investment banks, there are two European banks.

In this context, the regulation tends to be inspired by the American situation. This is a major stake locally because the funding models between countries are different: in the Eurozone, around 80% of financial intermediation passes through the banking system while in the United States, only 70% of the funding is intermediated by financial markets.
